Having lived in Northern Virginia for 30 years, I asked myself a simple question: Which local trip have I still not done?<\/p>\n<p>    Earlier in the summer I thought I might spend time in scenic Maine, but too many of my friends from the Northeast and mid-Atlantic seemed to be planning the same. I decided a more adventurous course of action would be to get in the car with my daughter Yana and spend a three-day weekend on the road.<\/ul>\n<p>The column is not easily excerpted, but here is one bit:<\/p>\n<ul>Lunch was in Morgantown, West Virginia, but rather than visit the university, we stopped for excellent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Restaurant_Review-g59335-d19735951-Reviews-Jamaican_Spice-Morgantown_West_Virginia.html\">Jamaican<\/a> food with jerk chicken, oxtail and plantains \u2014 better than the equivalent in the D.C. area. A tip: If you\u2019re ever looking for great food in obscure locales, don\u2019t just google \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?source=hp&#038;ei=RMjkXrGlKdKvytMPoIuwyA0&#038;q=best+haitian+restaurant+morgantown+wv&#038;oq=best+haitian+restaurant+morgantown+wv&#038;gs_lcp=CgZwc3ktYWIQAzIICCEQFhAdEB4yCAghEBYQHRAeOgUIABCxAzoCCAA6BQgAEIMBOgQIABAKOgYIABAWEB46BQghEKABUOwBWI8vYNgxaABwAHgBgAHQAYgB8RuSAQcyMy4xMi4ymAEAoAEBqgEHZ3dzLXdpeg&#038;sclient=psy-ab&#038;ved=0ahUKEwix1-eG5_7pAhXSl3IEHaAFDNkQ4dUDCAg&#038;uact=5\">best restaurants Morgantown WV<\/a>,\u201d as that will yield too many mainstream options. Pick a cuisine you don\u2019t expect them to have, and Google something like \u201cbest Haitian restaurant Morgantown WV.\u201d Whether a Haitian restaurant comes up (it didn\u2019t), you\u2019ll get a more interesting selection of \u201cbest\u201d picks. In this case we learned that a town of 30,000 people has several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Restaurants-g59335-c10-Morgantown_West_Virginia.html\">Caribbean<\/a> restaurants, highly rated ones at that.<\/ul>\n<p>Five states in one day (VA, WV, MD, PA, OH) was great fun.
