Llajtaymanta, 7236 Arlington Blvd. (Rte 50), Falls Church, VA, in the Graham Center (at Graham), next to where Cha Gio used to be, 703-204-0593 (Metro Trip Planner – opens in new window) [Washingtonian]
One of the most authentic Bolivian places around. The menu is in Spanish only. The waitresses don’t speak any English. The soups and meats are very good. I’ve only been once, but I will add this to my repertoire. Great atmosphere too.

This place is a lot of fun. Friday through Sunday they have live music in the evenings, and when that’s not going on you can watch the amusing Bolivian music videos they play on their TV. The waitresses dress in traditional Andean clothes, which helps to liven up the very small space which otherwise feels a little dingy and cafeteria-like. Of course, if what you’re looking for is interesting food, they definitely have it. They offer several varieties of empanadas (the saltenas are meaty and tasty) and a peanut soup that comes complete with soaked french fries and a chicken’s foot. Lots of meat on the menu. Definitely reminds me of the cheap-eats I remember from living in the Peruvian Altiplano — for a moment I was back there.
