Seoul Gool Dae Gee (Honey Pig Restaurant)

An A+ for the metallic décor and the Korean pop culture strewn all over the walls. Visually speaking, this might be my favorite place on the list. It’s also one of the two or three best places for Korean food. Get the pork neck barbecue. Ask them for their house specialty, a barbecue dish cooked with meat, vegetables, and octopus on top of your table. Very yummy. Good seafood pancake here as well.

Update October 2013: No longer the leader. See Kogiya.

This is a fantastic spot. I’ve been here a couple of times and have been very pleased. The quality of the food is great (I’ve had the bulgogi and seafood pancake), the prices are very cheap, quantities are huge and atmosphere is, well, unique. It feels like a 50’s diner done the Korean way, with a Twilight Zone twist. It’s open 24 hours, a perfect ending spot to a long night.

The seafood pancake was very good. I will be coming back here.

Wow, this is a fantastic spot! The atmosphere is terrific, so much energy, like a spaceshuttle back to the 80’s. The waitresses’ hairstyles and makeup are fun. The food is great. Drinking the Korean grain wine also adds a great deal to the atmosphere, but it can be exhausting the next day.

The food is great but unless you speak Korean they skimp on giving you side dishes that normally come with the meal. And they tell you that they don’t have this and that, but you see it at the next table…if you were Korean. I find this attitude at most Korean restaurants in the area.
