Shanghai Tea House, 2400 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC, 202-338-3816, open every day (Metro Trip Planner – opens in new window) [WaPo | MenuPages | Yelp | Chow Hound]
Sietsma likes this place but it is only OK. It does have better dumplings than anywhere else I know in DC but in Annandale it would not make the top ten. I quite liked the tofu and cabbage dishes, yummy. Cramped quarters. I can easily imagine worse places to eat, but if this is what you look forward to for your Chinese food, I feel sorry for you.

Tempted to say that if you need to feel so superior, I feel sorry for you. But I’ll settle for saying you’re much too much a class act to be so patronizing.
I visited this restaurant about two months ago, and although the food was fine, I can’t remember when I’ve encountered worse service at a restaurant. We were seated right away but didn’t get a menu for at least 10 minutes. It took us another 15 minutes or so to order (couldn’t even get the attention of the waitress because she never looked in our direction), and we never ended up receiving all the dishes we ordered — on the upside, they didn’t charge us for the ones the didn’t deliver. I might go back if they’ll do the bubble tea to go, but other than that it doesn’t seem to be worth the headache of actually getting food brought to your table.
The food is ok — it is also uneven from visit to visit — the dumplings are good. The service is just awful.
