Requin

Requin, web site, 8296 Glass Alley, Fairfax, VA 22031, Angelika Mosaic district, where Gypsy Soul used to be, 703-462-8662, dinner only, closed Mondays. (Metro Trip Planner – opens in new window) [WaPo | Washingtonian | NoVA Mag | Ylp | Don Rockwell]

It’s a pop-up as of December 2015, supposedly headed for DC, but I’ve heard vague rumors they will consider sticking around. Let’s hope so. The food is Franco-Mediterranean, more or less, I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve eaten here, which by now is well over half the menu. My favorite appetizer is the potatoes with sausage. I find most main courses in most restaurants boring, but not here. Most of all here I’ve been impressed by the roast chicken and the bouillabaisse, and yes I know, neither sounds very thrilling. The execution is first-rate and they even taste original. While this place isn’t cheap like many of the other options in this guide, for what you get it is reasonably priced. Very good soufflé dessert too. Right now (December 2015) this is one of northern Virginia’s very best restaurants.
