What’s the best dumpy place to eat in Austin?

I thank you in advance for your suggestions.

  1. Pete says:

    Tyler,

It’s not dumpy but PLEASE go to Pappadeaux and try the Shrimp Etoufee and let us know what you think. I’d be particularly interested in your comparison to RT’s in Alexandria.

    Other good items there:
    -Gumbo
    -Jambalaya
-Crawfish in pretty much any permutation
-Greek Salad (they make it at your table…you can order extra shrimp for a charge)
    -Boudin Sausage

If you wanna try alligator, they’ve got it.
Pretty much anything seafood there is good.

I totally wish they’d invest in a facility or two up in the DMV but they have intentionally avoided our region. Pity.

  2. I used to live in Austin and love dumpy places. Curra’s Grill for Mexican food and avocado margaritas. Also try the chilaquiles at Tamale House East. La Barbecue for brisket and Via 313 for Detroit-style pizza.
