Salone’s African Cuisine, web site, 22330 S. Sterling Blvd., Sterling, VA, 703-956-9145 (Metro Trip Planner – opens in new window) [WaPo | Yelp]
Very authentic and tasty. On the menu they have pepper soup, various cassava dishes, peanut butter soup, jollof rice and stew, curried goat, okra, curries, fry fry, red red, eguse soup, yams, tilapia, and many other West African dishes. The peppers are quite fresh. They don’t pull the fat off the meat to appeal to potential non-African customers and, fortunately, they don’t try to make everything taste good. Fans of cassava leaves will know what I mean. By the way, it is important to call ahead, as they don’t always have all the dishes in, or all the dishes ready. It takes a long time to boil a yam!
